Sonya Beatson
Trustee
Born in St. Lucia, Sonya Beatson spent most of her youth in Belize, Guyana, the U.K. and Switzerland. Whilst raising her family, she spent
the next 28 years volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul, Sisters of Charity and the Hospice movement in Italy, France and England. She has
now retired to Grenada with her husband and continues her charitable work with the Missionaries of Charity visiting families, the Richmond
Home and in the Soup Kitchen. With a team of friends she organizes an
annual fundraising plant sale and tea party for local children and senior homes at her home, where she grows the thousands of plants. Of
course this is no hardship for her as gardening is one of her many loves.
Darnley Charles
Trustee
Darnley worked in the United Kingdom from October 1960 up to his
retirement in December 2000. At that time he decided to return to his
birth country, Grenada, to assist with social development programs.
From mid 1965 he joined the Reading Racial Equality Council in
Reading, Berkshire and served as an executive member up to March 2001.
His involvement was mainly with community based organizations like the
Grenada Association (Reading); Reading Caribbean Association, Reading
Community Carnival and Central Reading Youth Provision. On his return
to Grenada he continues with his service to his local community and
serves on the board of the Cardrona Home for the Aged and is a member
of the Association of Returning Nationals in St. Andrew’s, Grenada.
